Happy 35th Birthday, David!
I told David that just because he turned 35 didn't mean he had to actually dress like an old man, but somehow he thinks black socks with shorts is ok. I do not let him out of the house like this!
My $35 white board...David said the 80's called and they want their dot-lettering back. Whatever! I LOVE my rainbow of dry-erase markers!
Jenn and Colin got David this "5th Birthday" card and changed it up for David, but they couldn't put 35 candles on the cake, I guess!
This is David's reaction to his Spidey glitter art!
And here he is imitating how Spiderman shoots his web!

This is my dad's "Oh, did I just cheat?" face.
Jenn and our friend Michelle (once again, my $35 white board - sorry, just can't let it go).

Summer Farmer's Market
The most fun part about going on Tuesdays is a little game I like to call, "Farmer's Market Surprise." I never know what is going to be for dinner on Tuesdays until I get to the market and feel inspired! On this night we had sauteed squash with Parmesan as a side dish, but the real winner was dessert: I sauteed my little basket O' figs with butter, brown sugar and a little cinnamon, then poured it over vanilla frozen yogurt. Oh my gosh, it was heaven!

Happy Pre-1st Birthday, Elijah!
Last night we got together for an early 1st Birthday for Elijah, since they will be overseas on his real birthday in August. It was fun!

Freedom Journey
In December of 2006, just 2 years after Byron died in Iraq, we decided to take a "Freedom Journey." We spent 3weeks on a road trip through the eastern US - from Austin east to Savannah, then all the way north to New England, and back a little inland to Texas. We traveled over 6000 miles in an effort to see our beautiful country and understand what Byron sacrificed his life for. We drove scenic routes, through small towns and big cities, stopping at places that held history in shaping our nation. We stopped at Veteran's Memorials, National Cemeteries, historical monuments and some of the most beautiful places in America. In each place, we left a "Freedom Rock," a smooth stone that had Byron's name and KIA date on one side, and said "Freedom Isn't Free" on the other. It was our way of taking Byron with us and leaving a bit of him in each special place. This experience was so healing for us, and truly one of the most memorable and special events of our entire lives. Here are our favorite pictures from the Freedom Journey.
