Hot Mama!

Our baby gift to my friend Chris was to offer maternity photos! She looked so beautiful in the pictures - I can't wait to see their new baby soon! Congratulations Christine and Michael!

Cuddle Bug!

Chloe loves to wiggle under cushions, under piles of laundry or wrap herself up in blankets. She actually got into this blanket all by herself!

President Bush's Farewell

Most of you know that our family was invited to the White House back in 2005 as my parents were the First Lady's guests at the State of the Union. The President talked about Byron in his address, and it was a very profound and honored moment for our family and for Byron. Well, this week my parents received another invitation to the White House to be guests of the President for his farewell speech. Here are some pictures from that evening - they were able to see and meet lots of neat people, including VP Cheney and Kerri Walsh (Olympic Gold Medalist in Beach Volleyball). Just before the speech, my parents met privately with the President and my mom gave him a Hero Bracelet with Byron's name on it. The President asked her to put it on his arm, then soon left to deliver his Farewell speech. So, we're pretty sure that he was wearing it while he addressed the nation for the last time! These pics are from my mom's camera. When they receive the official photo of them with the President from the White House photographer, I will post it.

Byron's GI Joe Marine made it to the White House! There is also a pic of the pouch my mom made from Byron's cami's - it has the Eagle, Globe and Anchor from one of his covers on it. We carry the little gold emblem to special occasions like weddings and ceremonies. Can you believe how beautiful the flowers in the White House are???

While they were in the DC area, my parents went back to the Marine Corps Museum in Quantico to see the brick that had been placed with Byron's name on it.

Good Friends, Good Food

I LOVE the people I work with! Here are a few of my nurse friends from work - Christine, Sarah and Gabrielle. We laugh so hard when we're all together!

Freedom Journey

In December of 2006, just 2 years after Byron died in Iraq, we decided to take a "Freedom Journey." We spent 3weeks on a road trip through the eastern US - from Austin east to Savannah, then all the way north to New England, and back a little inland to Texas. We traveled over 6000 miles in an effort to see our beautiful country and understand what Byron sacrificed his life for. We drove scenic routes, through small towns and big cities, stopping at places that held history in shaping our nation. We stopped at Veteran's Memorials, National Cemeteries, historical monuments and some of the most beautiful places in America. In each place, we left a "Freedom Rock," a smooth stone that had Byron's name and KIA date on one side, and said "Freedom Isn't Free" on the other. It was our way of taking Byron with us and leaving a bit of him in each special place. This experience was so healing for us, and truly one of the most memorable and special events of our entire lives. Here are our favorite pictures from the Freedom Journey.
